Main Article Content
Abstract
The research aimed to identify the level of awareness of the history of the Iraqi sports movement among the students of the faculties of physical education and sports sciences, identify their level of sport affiliation, and reveal the nature of the correlation between the two variables. The researcher adopted the descriptive method with its survey and relational methods to suit the nature of the problem. The research population consisted of students in the third stage in the faculties of physical education and sports sciences in three public universities, namely Baghdad, Al-Mustansiriya and Diyala, numbering 600 male and female students. The main sample reached 200 students who were selected by the relative stratified method, in addition to 25 male and female students for the exploratory experiment from outside the application sample. The researcher built a cognitive test for awareness of the history of the Iraqi sports movement consisting of 30 items of the multiple choice type with four alternatives, and adopted the sports affiliation scale of Muhammad Hassan Allawi in its modified form. The scientific basis of the two tools was verified by the validity and consistency of the referees using Cronbach's alpha and Kuder-Richardson methods and half-hashing. The results showed that the level of awareness of the history of the Iraqi sports movement among the sample members was moderate, and that the level of sports affiliation was high, and that the relationship between the two variables was direct and statistically significant at the significance level of 0.05. The researcher recommended that the vocabulary of the history of physical education and sports be reviewed and the content related to the Iraqi sports movement should be enhanced in a systematic and deliberate manner.
