The Effect of Pairwise Competition Style on the Performance Accuracy of Some Types of Shooting in Handball for Students

Abstract

       The study aimed to identify the effect of the pairwise competition style on the performance accuracy of some types of shooting in handball for students. The researcher adopted the experimental method with a two-equivalent-groups design, as it was deemed the most appropriate for the research problem and objective. The research sample, consisting of (40) students, was randomly selected from the research population, which comprised second-stage students at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Al-Qasim Green University, for the academic year (2025-2026). The sample was divided equally into two groups (control and experimental) via lottery, followed by conducting equivalence between the two groups and implementing the main experiment. The experimental group followed the pairwise competition style, while the control group followed the style adopted by the course instructor. After processing and analyzing the data, the researcher reached several conclusions, most notably: the pairwise competition style demonstrated a positive effect on the performance accuracy of some types of shooting in handball, in addition to the superiority of the experimental group (which followed the pairwise competition style) over the control group (which followed the traditional instructor-led style). In light of these conclusions, the researcher offered several recommendations, including: emphasizing the integration of the pairwise competition style as an effective method to improve the performance accuracy of handball skills, as well as the necessity of activating competitive learning styles within educational handball curricula.
